Theatergoers Get Together And Feel Alright: 'One Love' Tops $51M Holiday Weekend

Exceeding projections and bolstered by word-of-mouth marketing, Paramount Pictures docudrama “Bob Marley: One Love” hit a high note with a projected $51 million in U.S./Canada box-office debut over the six-day holiday period (the Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend), according to Comscore.
Paramount's lifetime national TV spend on the film (including value from national TV advertising on its own TV networks) was an estimated $20.5 million -- coming from 3,970 airings, resulting in 2.5 billion impressions, according to EDO Ad EnGage.
The heaviest spend on the film went to NFL football (CBS, Fox, ABC), NBA basketball (ABC, TNT), and CBS's “Grammy Awards.”
The projected box office for “Marley” for the holiday weekend is higher than the estimated debut of Sony Pictures’ “Madame Web” -- which is projected to reach $25.8 million for the six-day period (February 14 through February 19), per Comscore.
EDO Ad EnGage estimates the Sony movie -- about one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroines -- spent less than half the total of “Marley” in national TV ad spend -- $9.2 million, from 1,640 airings getting to one billion impressions.
Internationally, “Marley” added an estimated $56.7 million and “Madame Web”, $25.7 million.
Comscore says, the U.S./Canada box office is down 15% season-to-date to $764.1 million versus 2023. It is also down 41% from the pre-pandemic year period of 2019.

Good for Bob Marley movie. Excellent music, good story for our times. Lead actor is maybe a little too low-key and the Jamaican dialect made a bunch of scenes difficult to understand, but this is a decent movie with its heart in the right place (and a killer soundtrack). I'd recommend waiting for streaming with subtitles, though.
But the bigger and more newsworthy "trends" story is the one the controlled corrupt corporate media is loath to tell: How yet another misandrist misfocused miscalculated miserable superhero movie directed by yet another amateur non-American woman with zero knowledge of the source material and no eye for epic narrative scope or what heroism even means, bombed hard. These Zeitgeit-ignoring toxic female flops have lost Hollywood studios more than a billion dollar$ in theatergoing and streaming the past two years. That's a conservative estimate. It's probably more.
Hilariously, multiple other doomed-to-failure projects with the same no-talent pedigree are in the pipeline. The typist (not a writer) of THE FLASH (bomb) and BATGIRL (so bad Warner Bros. permanently shelved it) is now tasked with writing Disney's gender-and-race-swapped PIRATES movie, replacing Johnny Depp. Good luck with that.
Ah well, O Hell. "We had to burn down Hollywood in order to save it," LOL. Don't say nobody warned you! Y'all were just too stubborn to hear it, and "It's too late to stop now."
Madame Web looks pretty good and superhero films have done quite well the past 2 years that haven't lost billions it has made profits. I don't think that female Pirates movie will be a flop at the box office it should do well not saying it will be Johnny Depp well it will make a profit. Hollywood still makes billions of dollars but you seem to get it and Hollywood hasn't been burned down either.
I thought that Bob Marley was going to do well and was going to be number 1 at the box office this weekend, I thought Madame Web was going to be in that $25 to $30 million range.
